Joanne Forbes is raising money for Women V Cancer Open Challenges
Story
In the tea room at work about a year ago I was flicking through a magazine when I saw an advert for women V Cancer- Cycle Kenya. I tore it out and put it in my bag. I thought to myself I could do that.
Over one of the Bank Holidays last year while having a family BBQ I remembered the advert and went and dug it out of my bag and showed it to Fi- my sister in law- who got breast cancer a few years ago aged 33.
So that’s what I did
I signed up late last year and here I am, heading towards my mid forties-and obviously having a mid life crisis! What am I going to do?
...I’m going to cycle 400km across Kenya for charity! Yes that’s right-me! four hundred thousand metres!
…All I need to do is lose more weight and raise another £2.5k, so not that difficult then!
So I’m asking you to sponsor me over the coming months and I will cycle 400km over 5 days.
Please sponsor me and pass it onto your friends and ask them to sponsor me too. Every penny counts! I have until beginning of September to raise the money that’s just about 2.5 months, and trying to raise £500 a month which I'm hoping you'll help me achieve.
I’m under no illusions, it will be hard to lose the weight as well as training (exercise is not my forte but I'm currently swimming 30 lengths a day and a minimum of three spin classes a week- plus cycling on a proper bike!) let alone cycle across the Rift Valley which consists of Rainforest, Game Park, Mountains and Kenyan Roads
All funds raised by Women V Cancer will be divided equally between 3 important charities; Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Trust fighting Cervical Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Action and the money will be used to support their valuable work. I’ll also be supporting Cancer Care in Kenya so £100 of the money I raise will be used for a project to help Kenyan people.
