Story
Malawi was one of the first trips we ever made together, and was of particular importance to Rob as it is the country he was born in. He'd not been back since he was six months old, so his memory was rather patchy but this trip was certainly a momentous one for us both.
Gill and Terry Stoneman (Rob's parents) went to live in Malawi to help run a teacher-training college. Up to that point there was no secondary education. The care for children and young people in this country has held a special place in the heart's of the Stoneman family ever since.
Still one of the poorest countries in the world, everyday 1,890 babies are born here and a staggering 87 will die before their first birthday. 320 of these babies will become orphans. Open Arms Malawi was set up to help rectify this situation; registered as a UK charity in 2000, with an administrative base in Harrogate.
They believe, as we do, that every child has the right to life, survival and development. They prioritise family bonds and good education as the best grounding for survival and success.
By donating today you are providing medical attention, shelter, food and love to some of Malawi's orphaned and abandonned children. We've seen the good this charity can do first-hand - and can't think of a better cause to support.
Thanks for being such lovely friends and family to us - and for sharing that love a little further.
