Story

Hi, thanks for your interest in my fundraising page! I’m
Joakim, a 3rd year Media and Environmental Communication student.
For our Community Project module this year, we are raising funds for Community
Media for Kenya. It is a project which will take us to Cham gi Wadu, a
marginalised rural community in the heart of the Nyanza region of Kenya.

CM4K was approached by a collective of subsistence farmers
and community groups from Cham gi Wadu requesting our help:

1) to build a community radio station; and

2) to train local people to operate and sustain the radio
station as a community resource.

Radio in this community provides an essential lifeline to
people in remote communities. It provides a cost-effective means of
communication for rural people and is the technology most commonly found in
Kenyan homes. I’m passionate about community led change, and tools like radio
are essential to push community development around local, environmental, and social
issues.

We are collectively aiming to raise £2000 to cover the costs
for the radio equipment so any donations would be hugely appreciated!

JustGiving is simple and totally secure. The money goes
directly to CM4K. **Please tick 'Gift Aid' - it donates an extra 25% at no
extra cost to you! **
