Invest in ME Research has, as its objective, to change how myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) is perceived, treated and researched. We do this by raising funding for biomedical research and improving education about the disease. We are currently facilittaing high-quality biomedical research in UK/Europe

Story

In 2004 I was diagnosed with ME.  Then, and it still remains the case today that, there are no NICE approved medical treatments for this profoundly disabling condition. I was fortunate enough to be re-diagnosed with a different condition in 2005, which allowed me access to effective medical treatments.  It's been a long slog, however, I am now recovered enough to get back into cycling which I loved before becoming ill.

My cycle will raise funds for a UK based Rituximab trial. Rituximab is a medical treatment used in various cancers and auto-immune conditions.  In small scale trials in Norway this has proven remarkably effective.  Compelling enough to warrant larger stage 3 clinical trials, which are now underway in Norway.  Around 2/3rds of ME sufferers respond to this treatment giving them a dramatic improvement in the quality of their lives.

My coast to coast cycle ride will take place on the last weekend of April/beginning of May 2016 - the bank holiday weekend.
