We are the UK’s leading charity fighting to ensure a better future for young minds

Story

"YoungMinds is the UK's leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people."

On August 30th a group of dedicated people will attempt to walk up to the peak of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, to raise money for the charity YoungMinds to help save their parents' helpline, a very important service the charity provide to parents in need of support and guidance to help care for their children who suffer from mental illnesses.

The charity may have to shut down their parents' helpline by March of 2015 if YoungMinds are unable to receive the funding that is so desperately needed.

Lauren Oates:

Being one of many young people that suffers with a mental illness, I know how important the charity really is. It's helped me in many ways to open up about my own problems and share it with people. I wish my family were more aware of the charity during the harder days.

This is one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about keeping this charity going. I want to raise awareness of it, so that parents don't feel alone or confused in times of a crisis.

I also want to do this for Geraldine and her family. I know this charity means ever so much to them and I just want to do something great to show them how strong they've been, and that I will always support them - and anyone else having to deal with mental health problems in their lives.

Joanna Pritchard:

This parents' helpline has helped so many, including the parents of my late friend, Pauline Swatridge, who used the YoungMinds helpline when she was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Pauline fought bravely for years before ending her pain and ending her life, and this is why the charity is important to me.

I want YoungMinds to carry on doing more of their outstanding work to help more beautiful people like Pauline and her parents understand and become more informed about mental illness as well as the support that they are able to receive.

Pauline has surely left a void in my heart and mind that may be filled with the inspiration to care for others as she did for so many and for me.
