.So, our fundraising journey continues…

We’ve reached an incredible milestone which will enable Louie George to have the surgery and aftercare he needs with any equipment or therapy that is required.

Our next mission is to adapt our home making it accessible for Louie George. Currently we are simply just having to cope, and it is becoming increasingly harder as Louie is getting older and bigger! Louie doesn’t have the space to be able to use his walker in the house, he is very restricted moving around the house, he has no access to the garden and outdoor space, while carrying him up and down the stairs has become a task only his dad can do or other family members if they are around to help. In addition, Louie’s bathroom isn’t big enough for his equipment making bath times harder and he is unable to even use the shower as its too small. It’s hard enough having to live and cope as we are but to watch Louie suffering because of it is heart-breaking to say the least.

After seeking help from the disabled facilities team at the council it became apparent that because of the age and layout of our house it just isn’t feasible to do any simple adaptations. Unable to move house because of my (Louie’s mum) deteriorating health and us requiring the help from our parents 3 doors down we were at a loss what to do. The dfg team then proposed we project manage the adaptations needed ourselves with a small grant from them. We knew we’d need a lot more money and that it wouldn’t be straight forward, but we had to try! it is our only option.

We put a plea out for help and received an outpouring of offers for the internal works from electricians, plumbers, you name it. We also had an amazing architect come forward who drew up all our plans. We then had plans passed which leaves us now to find a builder willing to help.

Plans are to add a dwelling to our existing home which will consist of an open plan living area and kitchen enabling Louie to roam freely in his walker wherever he wants including direct access to the garden and outdoor space. It will also include a physio and therapy room and accessible toilet for Louie. There will then be a lift shaft that goes up into our existing house where the living room will be converted to a bedroom for Louie and the kitchen will be converted into an accessible wet room for Louie. Our current upstairs will remain the same and untouched.

The only thing our fundraising money would not allow us to purchase would be the new kitchen, so our plan is to put out a plea for help with this once we get the build going.

As you can imagine this all comes at a cost, and as every penny has gone into getting Louie enough for surgery. It’s money that we just do not have or are able to get anytime soon. It is hard having to prioritise our problems which of course we put surgery first but having a comfortable life in his home is just as important to us. Please help us make our home ‘fit for our warrior’ so that he can continue to live his best life.

 Thank you TeamLouieGeorge 💙
