I've decided to run the Oxford Half Marathon this October to raise money for Deaf Direct, a charity that is very close to my heart. I can't run for the bus without needing some oxygen (seriously...I'm not joking) but I feel very passionate about raising money for this cause. This isn't always well known but both of my parents are profoundly deaf and they really are my idols and every day they make me so proud. 

However, one thing that is hugely apparent there is just NOT enough awareness and support for the deaf and hard of hearing community. My beautiful God-Daughter and her family members are witnessing this first hand and it just highlighted to me...that more needs to be done to support this wonderful community!

Can you hear me? 1 in 6 people in the UK can't. Hearing loss affects us all in some way. Perhaps Granny has the TV on too loud. Maybe Dad is missing some of your conversation - he used to work with heavy machinery. Or maybe your child has been born with a hearing loss and you don't know where to turn. Deaf Direct helps a person to "feel like a human being again" after a diagnosis of hearing loss. We provide practical and emotional support to overcome communication barriers and help people to remain independent.
