Joe's page

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Joe and I am 12 years old. When I was 9 I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and coeliac disease. This was a big shock and changed my life completely. I have learned to live with these conditions now, but it's not been easy. I test my blood around 10 times every day to check my glucose levels. I need to have insulin every time I eat. I used to have to inject this 5 times a day or more, but I am now lucky to have an insulin pump which is connected to me 24 hours a day. I change the cannula which attaches the pump to me every 2 days, so it's a lot fewer needles than it used to be.
At the moment there is no way to prevent or cure Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 is an autoimmune disease, it isn't linked to diet or lifestyle. Scientists are working hard to find the cure and also to make treatments better. I hope one day they will find the cure and so I'm raising money towards this valuable research. It costs £60 to fund 1 hour of research, so if you are able to help me raise this that would be great.
