Story

The Cause

Throughout Zil’s ‘mini break’ (as she liked to call her time at St. George’s), she showed gratitude for the ‘NHS heroes’ and stressed the importance of giving back. She adored the staff and was deeply grateful for everything they did. With this in mind, all funds raised will be donated to St. George’s.

Zil was also an advocate for stem cell donation, keen to help others with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) . For more information and to register as a donor, please visit: https://www.bbmr.co.uk/donating-stem-cells/.

Zil’s Journey

On Wednesday 19th August 2020, our seasoned traveller, Zil, embarked on her greatest solo adventure.

In March this year, it was confirmed that the fatigue Zil had been experiencing was not a result of jetlag from her latest travels, and wasn’t something she could shrug off.

Zil was quick to embrace the situation, as she did with everything in her life. Amidst lock down and being in hospital, Zil spiced up her chemo sessions with a diary full of plans: from dinner parties with her friends on Zoom, to virtual family quizzes and dinners, she was always present from afar. Her positivity and strength was evident not only to her loved ones but to the doctors and nurses too, leaving an impression on the whole ward.

After completing her initial chemo and successfully fighting through, Zil was cancer free.

Zil then embarked on her next journey with an efficient set of Germanic stem cells and a new blood type. Zil had powered through and arrived at her second ‘Birthday’ (‘Day Zero’): Thursday 9th July 2020. However, some complications meant Zil’s journey detoured to a better place.

Zil would have loved the idea of giving back to the heroes that helped her, so please donate what you can whilst also raising a (large) glass to her fierce, adventurous and generous spirit.
