Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.
I'm joining my dad, Duncan, and thousands of others on June 18th, all cycling the 54-mile London to Brighton ride for the British Heart Foundation.
My grandad Colin Roome sadly died April 30th 2021. His aorta split and he died slowly over 8 weeks.
My grandad was a truly great man. He did National Service as an RMP in Kenya. Climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, not just because he could, but to write about its plant life. He had six children, one of which is my own brilliant dad. Grandad trained as a gardener at Kew and was a respected horticultural judge. He designed, hand painted and displayed Health and Safety posters for his workforce before 'official' ones were available. Had a poem published about Danson Park, where he lived and worked. But more than that, he always had time for everyone, he could make us grandkids laugh by simply saying "Well hello!". The term legend gets used too much, but my grandad really was a legend.
My dad has been a cycle mechanic for years and decided riding London to Brighton to raise money for the British Heart Foundation would be the most fitting way to remember his dad. As soon as I found out I wanted to stand by, and ride alongside, my dad, to pay my own respects to my grandad. But also to show my dad that he means the world to me. Love you dad.
Please help me raise money for a great cause!
Thank you.
