My name is Joe, Feb8th 2020 my life changed when I was diagnosed with a brain tumour. I was transferred to Beaumont hospital, where I had neuro surgery to biopsy & attempt to debulk the tumour. This led to being diagnosed with a grade 3 oliglodendroglioma tumour. To treat & fight to live, the tumour was blasted with 30 fractions of radiotherapy in St Luke’s Rathgar. Followed by 6 months of oral chemotherapy in Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore. I am on presently on a break from treatment, my MRI on Apr 30th will decide whether more is required. Cancer affects so many people & their families. I intend to cycle with the support of family & friends 1,000km over a 2 month period to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. As more people turn to us for information, support and advice and as new needs emerge, we are responding by extending our Nurseline hours and extending the phone service to a general information & advice line to support those with non-medical issues. We have introduced remote counselling sessions for cancer patients that are unable to access face-to-face services. There is a 20% increase in demand for the Night Nursing service which is operating as normal for now. Our dedicated volunteer driver service continues to take cancer patients to their chemotherapy treatments.Unfortunately with Covid-19 having forced the cancellation of our major events and the closure of our charity shops, your support is needed now, more than ever.
