Borne Arctic Challenge April 2018
Campaign by Borne (RCN 1167073)
A courageous trek to the North Pole led by Alan Chambers MBE to raise funds for vital research to prevent preterm birth, and give millions of children the chance of a full life, free of disability.

Story

On behalf of Anita's House, on 19th April 2018 we reached the North Pole having trekked the final 1/2 degree with 10 other hardy polar adventurers, led by veteran polar explorer Alan Chambers MBE. It took 4 days, on skis, and each pulling a 40kg sledge in temperatures ranging between -30c and -40c (our freezer at home is only -18c...). We travelled about 100km and had to deal with moving ice floes, open water and thankfully avoided polar bears. It's one of the most inhospitable environments on earth and was, without doubt, the biggest physical and mental challenge of my life.

However, it's for a great cause. Borne is a medical research charity aiming to identify the causes of premature birth to save lives, prevent disability and create lifelong health for mothers and babies. Premature birth is the leading cause of infant mortality in children under 5 around the world today. 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide every year. 1 million die. And 75% of childhood disabilities with lifelong implications are associated with premature birth. For 45%-50% of preterm births, the cause is unknown.

Having been involved with Babylist and Anita's House for many years, I am raising money for Borne on behalf of Anita's House which raises funds for baby and children related charities.

So please give generously in support of this extreme challenge I have taken on, and for all of the unborn children who will benefit from Borne's ground-breaking research. You can help give them the chance at the life they deserve.

Thank you so much. To the Pole!
