At 15 weeks old Joey was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis.
We called NHS as Joey was crying a lot, which wasn’t like him and he had a slight temperature (38). We saw a doctor who sent us to hospital due to Joeys temperature rising, however we were told he had no signs of major infection. To our horror when we arrived at hospital we were told he needed a lumber puncture. They then confirmed he had bacterial meningitis and required antibiotics urgently. He was on several different antibiotics and in hospital for two weeks. He never had a rash throughout.
He is now 10 months old and doing great however he will be monitored by the meningitis clinic for a few years.
Scott and I have both used the meningitis helpline for advice and support. As you can imagine we are worried sick every time Joey gets a cold or is teething.
We have been extremely lucky as so many families are devastated by this disease.
Meningitis research are a great support to families and are working towards a cure. Please help us raise as much money and awareness as possible to support them.
We would also like to thank the NHS and Wishaw General childrens ward, their speedy response saved Joeys life.
