Story

WHO

Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

If you don’t know me, my name is John Denison, I live in Pulborough, West Sussex, and I recently had a terrible shock. I woke up on April 4th to discover I had reached my allotted three score years and ten and couldn’t imagine how it had happened. My wife Eleanor suggested I stopped whingeing and did something useful instead; so I have decided to take a long walk and raise some money for a project dear to my heart at the same time.

WHAT

Over 7 days in May, I plan a sponsored walk covering all 89 miles of the High Weald Landscape Trail from Rye to Horsham.  Some of my friends from Pulborough and elsewhere will be keeping me company along the way.

WHY

The walk is to raise money for a primary school in Sierra Leone that is in desperate need of funds. After years of civil war, Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in West Africa. Schooling is free but children have to have a uniform to attend and many parents simply cannot afford to buy one.

St Mary’s School, our Primary School in Pulborough, where I have been a Governor, has strong ties with a primary school in Kenema, the third largest city in Sierra Leone.  An enterprising teacher from St Mary's, Daisy Waring, has spent time at the school and St Mary's pupils are now in active contact with the children in Kenema. We are all keen to raise as much money as possible to enable children in Kenema to attend school, get an education and guarantee a better future for their families.

HOW TO DONATE

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe - JustGiving will never sell them on or send unwanted emails.

JustGiving will send your donation directly to the charity supporting the Kenema Primary School and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. This makes it the most efficient way to donate.

If you would like to sponsor me, the simplest way is to donate by credit or debit card on this Just Giving site. Or send me a cheque, payable to Education West Africa, to my home address (email me on denisons@btinternet.com if you don’t know it). Education West Africa guarantee that all the money I raise will go direct to the Kenema School.

I would be most grateful for any donation, and so obviously will the children of Kenema - the benefit to them will be enormous.
