Story

Way back in 2001 our Dad John Doran became severely weak and ill after a lifetime of being 'fit as a fiddle'. As a family we were at a loss what to do to get him better. Once he was referred into Wigan Infirmary (as it was then) we were put into the trusting hands of Dr Naqvi and his team of experts. Dr Naqvi listened to us as a family pleading for his help and after performing miracles by swapping his failed Aortic Valve with a mechanical one, Dr Naqvi advised that the best case would be 15- 20 more years but with no guarantees.

Amazingly it has been 20 years that we (and most people who came across his path) had the pleasure of our dad and the wacky character he was. Virtually everyone has a story to tell us about our Dad and we really could write a book about his exploits. He only liked to portray the tight-fisted joker to the public but if you were able to get beneath that persona, you found a kind, caring person who genuinely had empathy for people and causes. He raised 1000's for various causes over the years by walking, running and cycling.

Now that his time here is done, we would like his legacy to be continued support of a cause close to his heart (literally). The family therefore ask everyone who knew him to donate, if possible, any amount that they can afford at this difficult time to The Three Wishes charity (Heart and Lungs Unit).

The Charity makes the most of every last penny and is very grateful for the support and generosity of our donors and the tireless efforts of fundraising volunteers and supporters who give their time and effort to help us. Our Heart and Lung Fund supports the care of our cardiology, coronary care patients and all respiratory services. The fund buys new equipment and the new Cardiology Catheter Discharge Lounge that opened in January 2018 was built entirely with charitable funds.
