Welsh Coast 2 Coast extreme 24 hour Challenge
There have been numerous cycle rides that have navigated their way down through Wales over the years, but none more challenging that the 205 mile Coast 2 Coast 24 hour extreme challenge.
The ride starts at Caernarfon on Saturday 12th July and finishes at Saudersfoot 24 hours later. The route takes you across Wales to its borders with England and back to within a few miles of the Ceredigion Coast. This is a rare opportunity to cycle some of the most challenging and beautiful roads in Wales and include:
Climb through Llanberis to Pen y Pas with the Snowdonia mountains in front, behind and on either side of you. Slate walls between you and the summit of Snowdon and Glyder Fawr and sheep worn down by years of enduring the extreme weather of the highest mountain range in Wales grazing the lush summer grass around you.
This 24 hour ride takes you on to Lake Fyrnwy positioned on top of a mountain above Bala. The climb to the lake is fitting for an extreme challenge! It is certainly not for the feint hearted and is best described as one of the toughest climbs in the UK. Later the route will take you over the Radnorshire hills before navigating the Elan Valley, where you will enjoy the outstanding natural beauty that the area has to offer.
Fear not, it is not all hard work! You will also be able to enjoy long periods of flat roads which adjoin the Tregaron bog that take you over to Lampeter, however enjoy the rest, for later the route takes you up and over the Preseli hills where the stones of Stonehenge were quarried, from here it is all down hill to Laugharne.
