This summer I’m intending to challenge myself to complete the Pen Llyn 75mile ultra trail marathon in aid of Parkinson’s UK with the help of a sponsored place from Dragon Cheese. The Pen Llyn is trail based ultra marathon that sees us circumnavigate the majority of the Llyn Peninsula in Snowdonia, North Wales following the coastal path. Set in some stunningly beautiful scenery the course offers a some tough trail conditions, including several beach sections, and plenty of elevation gain throughout. Last years winner came in just under 14hours but i’ll just be overjoyed if I finish.

In taking this on I’m hoping to raise some money and support for Parkinson’s UK, as I’m sure many of you are aware this is a condition my father suffers from. Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. The number of people diagnosed with Parkinson's in the UK is about 145,000. On a personal level I experience the way in which Parkinson’s can make my Dads daily life an unbelievably  frustrating grind for someone who would otherwise be a fit and healthy highly capable individual. I have become acutely aware of how Parkinson’s not only shows itself through physical and psychological symptoms but also robs a person of their independence, placing a sometimes excruciating duty of care on those closest to them.

Every hour, two people in the UK are told they have Parkinson's. Because of Parkinsons UK no one has to face Parkinson's alone. They offer friendship, support, expert information and advice. Whilst also funding ground breaking research into Parkinson's and leading the way to find a cure.
