London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·

Every working day in the UK two construction workers take their own life. We are the only charity providing emotional, physical and financial support to the construction community through our 24/7 Helpline.

Story

Having just turned 60 on 1st April 2022, I decided to buy myself a monster truck as a treat, as well as train again for the London Marathon 2022.  In hindsight, neither are very sensible ideas, but I thought, what the hell, you only live once!

This will be the second time I will take part in the London Marathon, having first participated some 32 years ago.  I’ve already started some light training to increase my fitness levels and aim to start the full training programme in June.

I have already raised £3,500 at The Southern Lighthouse Charity Lunch, but I’d really love to reach my target of £10,000 to support a charity who relies on the generosity of those within the industry to ensure it can continue providing the physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families.

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity are the only charity that provides mental, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families. They provide a 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline, which provides free and confidential support services, and this is complemented by their free Construction Industry Helpline App, which offers expert guidance on a huge variety of wellbeing issues. They also offer free mental health and wellbeing training for the construction community.

All donations will be gratefully received, not only to help reach my goal of £10,000, but to support such a worthwhile charity.

Wish me luck!
