Oysterband's John Jones: 2016 for Macmillan

Oysterband's John Jones: 2016 for Macmillan · 13 February 2016
For six years now I have combined my twin passions of walking and singing each summer; and - accompanied by fellow musicians, fans and friends - I have walked to gigs in pubs, village halls, churches and festivals. I have always said when interviewed that I walk for the pleasure of walking through this varied and beautiful landscape, and sing each evening to let the songs and music give a focus to the day.
This year I have an added incentive to make the journey, having recovered from colon cancer last year. It will be a measure of how far I have come on my personal journey and this year especially will be a chance to give something back to the wonderful organisations and people who see us through the darkest days when we are at our most vulnerable.
I want to raise as much money as possible through sponsorship and the gigs and for the first and only time appeal to everyone out there to give what you can and maybe join me on the walks and the gigs. Macmillan Cancer Support is known by everyone for working to ensure that no-one faces cancer alone or without the support they need, and later in the year I will focus on raising money for my local Hereford Hospital to which I owe a huge debt for their clinical care and excellence.
All my walking and music this year will be dedicated to those who got me to this point ...back on stage and exploring the paths of the beautiful Welsh Borders where I live. Details of the walks are on my website www.jj-rr.org.
Thanks - and Meet You There. JJ
P.S. By September as we reach Kington Walking Festival on our final walk I hope to have completed 1,000 miles since our walking and singing tours began.
