Parents, pupils and teachers at on the Ridgeway, , are planning to take on a “Challenge for 2010”.  They will be climbing at least 10 peaks and covering some 20 miles, over the weekend of the 18th & 19th September.  This unique challenge was the brainchild of parent Andy Sykes, who successfully motivated and co-ordinated the Schools “3-Peak Challenge” in 2007, that saw numerous groups climb, Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike, and Snowdon, over a weekend: the ambitious ones managing the feat inside 24 hours; others in 48 hours; with “family groups” taking 3-days to cover the distance and to climb the “3 Peaks”.

The “2010 Challenge” is all based in the Lake District, and will see the participants complete a circular route that takes in: Glenridding Dodd, Sheffield Pike, Stybarrow Dodd, Raise, White Side, Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike, Dollywaggon Pike, Seat Sandal, , St Sunday Crag, Birks.  This challenge will involve some “wild camping”; but the groups are undertaking training and are ready for the challenge the “hills” can throw at them.

The “2010 Challenge” brings a great sense of community to the school; mixing all ages, and abilities; alongside pupils, parents and teachers: united in a single challenge.  The money raised through sponsorship will be used to enhance the school environment, and will be shared with a local charity – “Grove House”.

All the participants cover their own costs, and all monies raised will pass directly to the School (80%) and Grove House (20%).
