Story

Bonjour! For those of you who are familar with me you'll be aware of my frequently reckless and crazy schemes. Well.....this is my latest. I've recently bought myself a "vintage" Raleigh Burner BMX and, in what can only be described as a moment of lunacy, decided I'm going to cycle from John O'Groats to Lands end upon my mighty stead. As some of you may know this is a trip of just under 1000 miles, a feat which on your average mountain/road bike would be considered impressive, however a BMX has only one speed meaning I won't be able to switch into a higher gear for the hills, humps and bumps I will encounter along the way and there will be no respite for aching muscles. I'll also be carrying around 10kg of weight, in the form of a tent, sleeping bag, clothing, etc, necessary to complete the journey.

As many of you know snowboarding is a huge part of my life and for this reason I have decided to use this opportunity to raise money for Disability Snowsports (http://www.disabilitysnowsport.org.uk) a UK based charity that for nearly 30 years has enabled individuals with disability to take part in snowsports. The proposed date of departure is September 26th 2009. I would love to do the journey in 10 -12 days however conversations with individuals in the know think this may be slightly optimistic so am settling for the "get there when I get there" mentality. Nonetheless this is going to be a huge task that will take as much mental preparation as it will physical. I know these are times of economic recession but please dig deep and give as much as you can so others can enjoy the sport that so many of you and I enjoy from the tips of our toes to the icicles on our nose. Please also select the Gift Aid option when donating so the tax man does his part too!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to my employers, Neil and Al, at Freeze (www.freezeproshop.com) who are giving me a huge amount of support and assistance to undertake this mammoth task. And to Lianna who's using her MX/BMX/Mountain bike contacts and endless charity experience to help me make this hair-brained idea a reality and who continues to provide me with endless supplies of encouragement.
