Story

Play Kenya need your help to put love into the bones of twin girls,
dying of neglect. Can you please help us? Two baby twins, we will call them
Lexi and Lottie, are failing to thrive. Their mum walks all day with these tiny
scraps of humanity, begging for money. Instead of being played with, fed, and
loved, they are tiny, unwilling beggars in a circle of life that isn’t saving
them.

At 6 months old they weigh just 8lbs (3.4 kilos); they have
not developed in any way that they should have and are like newborn babies. They
lie, empty, and shut down for hours. Their Mum is not a bad person, but she has
some learning difficulties, and has not been well enough, emotionally, or
physically, to care for her babies.

These babies are floppy, they have not built-up muscle, they
don’t gurgle or chatter, nothing that indicates they are connected to life.
Lexi never cries. Neither smile. They have reached none of their milestones,
and they have trouble feeding from mum, so she gives them food they cannot
digest. They have bad stomachs and any chance of gaining weight is destroyed by
bad hygiene and diet. They simply won’t make it without your help.

We have had the whole family checked for underlying health
issues, and although the Mum suffers from epilepsy, she has no other
conditions. But she can’t cope. She is in a violent relationship, where both
physical and sexual abuse are part of her daily life. She wants to move away
and find a better life for her twins and their older sister who is five years
old. There were other babies conceived, but she miscarried many times through
the violence within the home. These girls have experienced so much that will
compromise their futures, if we don’t help them now.

We have found a home to relocate the Mama and her babies; we
have a facility ready for them to be emotionally supported through the day.
Mama will be shown how to care, physically and emotionally for her girls, and
we will have a kind loving person, available to give this Mama time to make
sense of the violence she lived through

The babies will be in a stimulating, kind environment during
the day. They will be helped to feed and shown kindness. They will have a
programme of exercises to build their delayed muscles.

We will pour love into the family and wait, lovingly, to see
a light of hope in the faces of Lexi and Lottie, when they realise, they don’t
have to live in silent fear, slowly dying from hunger and neglect, day by day.
We will watch their little tummies and limbs fill, for their eyes to seek
connection, and for them to roll over, smile, laugh, just like they should be.

Please help us by giving what you can. Play Kenya, The Kindness Project, will stand with these babies for as long as they need. Please stand with us
