Story
As many of you may already know, John sadly died on Friday 2nd August 2019 aged 73.
John stayed true to his character right to the very end after suffering pancreatic cancer for over a year. He had so many interesting projects he planned to start and complete so although his body failed him his brain was active to the very end. All members of the family being given instructions as to how to repair, maintain, improve and proceed in the future using sketches, memos, photos and conversations- a true teacher to the end!
He will be so missed by all of us. For his unstinting help in so many different aspects; for his exceptional DIY skills (old school!); for his home grown veg and cooking; for his love of sport; for his amazing memory (ie. an ability to recognise and remember past students, some almost his own age!) and for his dedication to teaching having taught for 42 years in Christopher Whitehead Schools.
Following retirement he was able to pursue his love of gardening, creating sculpture work from recycled metal, playing badminton and table tennis, enjoying fantastic holidays abroad and mountain walks, particularly in Wales - a patriotic Welshman to the core.
John and his family are most grateful for the caring support offered by all members of the St. Richard's Hospice staff (some of whom happened to be ex CW students) during his brief stay there. For this reason we would be most appreciative of any contribution you can make towards this invaluable facility in this area. A better ending you couldn't wish for.
