Jon's LEJOG - Lands End to John O'Groats bike ride

Jon Bentley is raising money for National Association for People Abused in Childhood

Participants: This is a ride organised over 12 days by Discover Adventure. There are 50 riders in total, many of whom are raising money for a variety of charities. I am paying my own way, so all my fundraising (plus gift aid) will go directly to NAPAC.

Childhood trauma can have lasting impacts, but the right support can transform lives. We support adult survivors and train professionals, so that survivors receive the services they need. Support Line 0808 801 0331 for adults who experienced any type of abuse in childhood. https://napac.org.uk/

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC)
is the UK’s leading national charity offering support to adult survivors of all types of childhood abuse, including physical, sexual and emotional abuse and neglect. Visit napac.org.uk

Around one in five adults have experienced some form of abuse in childhood. There are over five million adult survivors of child sexual abuse in the UK.

NAPAC runs a national support line: 0808 801 0331 which is free from UK landlines or mobiles. Last year they took over 4,500 calls on their support line. NAPAC:

  • trains professionals to better understand how to support the survivors they work with. This year they are training 300 people
  • runs support groups for survivors to help people come to terms with the impact of their childhood trauma
  • Advocates on behalf of survivors in the media and elsewhere
  • is closely involved in helping the UK Police with Operation Yewtree and its consequences, and with the Papal Commission for the protection of minors.

I chose to support NAPAC as it does incredible work, and because the founder Peter Saunders is a fellow cyclist at my bike club Bigfoot CC. Indeed NAPAC is the chosen charity for the club.

I plan to do a daily blog for the ride on the Bigfoot CC website, and here is a link: http://bigfootcc.co.uk/2016/06/lejog-the-blog-first-post/
