Event: Zanzibar bike ride June 2013
We transform healthcare in Zanzibar to save and improve lives, every day.

Story

Thanks for taking a look at my JustGiving page.

In June 2013 I am cycling round the island of Zanzibar (off the coast of Tanzania) to raise money for the Health Improvement Project Zanzibar - HIPZ. I am paying all the costs of the trip myself, so any money I raise goes direct to our small charity and goes a long way to improve the healthcare on the island.

In 2010 a group of us raised over £80,000 with a similar bike ride. This money has been used at Makunduchi Hospital where we now have a functioning maternity unit, primary care unit, operating theatre, children's ward, outpatient services, dentistry etc.

In April 2013 we added Kivunge Hospital in the north of Zanzibar to the HIPZ project - this hospital is 3 times bigger than Makunduchi and in desperate need of improvement. HIPZ is now responsible for providing basic healthcare for approximately 250,000 people.

The bike ride is needed to again work to start basic maternity, a functioning operating theatre and to renovate the wards to a decent standard. I know I have asked many of you for support before - your donations have made such a difference and thank you if you are able to donate to us at HIPZ again in 2013.
