We raise money and awareness to support all who have a bleeding disorder

Story

I'm going to win the London Marathon.

Well, I'll certainly be having a go.

I'll be running for the Haemophilia Society. Haemophilia is a rare bleeding disorder in which the blood does not clot properly. This can lead to spontaneous bleeding externally and internally, as well as bleeding following injuries or surgery.

Haemophilia affects about 1 in 5000 with only about 172,000 people in the world diagnosed with the condition.

Due to the rarity of the condition, like many small charities, the Haemophilia Society doesn't get all the funding it needs, so it relies heavily on sponsorship.

For those of you who don't know, my youngest son, Arthur, and my father-in-law, Paul, suffer with haemophilia. Haemophilia usually only affects males, but my (genuinely & statistically 1 in a million) wife is both a sufferer and a carrier.

Thankfully for us, it is a relatively manageable medical condition with special medicine on hand at all times and a few more trips to A&E than most (the children's ward at QEQM is getting to know Arthur by first name due to his frequent visits post punch up with his non-affected older brother), however, for many others who suffer, they have it considerably worse than we do.

I recently attended a conference put on by the Haemophilia Society and I came away with a whole new perspective on how good we’ve got it compared to some others. This inspired me to do something for the society and those affected.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this and any money you donate is hugely appreciated.

And if the above isn't enough to make you reach into your pockets, just look at the state of me. My diet is high in saturated fats, I have a sweet tooth and I drink a lot of alcohol. In order to do this, i'll be training 4/5 times a week, sorting my diet and cutting out beer (temporarily!), so go on, if not for the Haemophilia Society, help a man out.
