Antimicrobial resistance - or AMR - contributes to 35,000 deaths in the UK annually. Urgent action is needed. AMR Action UK support people affected by helping them navigate treatment, sharing their stories with decision makers and campaigning for urgent action to prevent avoidable harm and deaths.

Story

Drug resistant infections or ‘superbugs’ are killing more than 700,000 people globally each year and urgent action is needed now.

Antibiotic Research UK (ANTRUK) is the world’s first charity created to tackle bacterial antibiotic resistant infections. Our mission is to:

·        Develop one new antibiotic therapy by the early
2020’s

·        Educate the public and professionals about
antibiotic resistance

·        Develop a patient support network

In the last 12 months ANTRUK have used your generous donations to screen 1,600 existing drugs against five different antibiotics and four antibiotic resistant ‘superbugs’. From 150,000 data points at least 10 different ARB / antibiotic combinations have been found which appear to have broken resistance. The charity is now fundraising to consolidate these results before moving onto clinical trials - speeding these new therapies to patients as quickly as possible.
