Resolution Run Southampton 2020 · 1 March 2020 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Please support my small 10k run for Stroke and donate (and share for awareness) anything from £1, to £10 to £100 - any amount will help to add to the POT for the great work this charity does to help those and the families affected.

My father suffered a stroke aged just 28 (Back in Nov 1988 - I was 6 Years old). He was an active/fit person and successful in having his own security business. He had just also the day before passed his medical on his pilots license .... so VERY unexpected

There were many challenges (firstly would he live - the answer was probably not - BUT , Yes he did) there were then the challenges from massive physical to mental changes (what most of us take for granted daily) to family impact for him, along with for all those close to him. Life would never be the same

The hospital he was admitted to was Brook Hospital (Shooters Hill) then onto Pembury Hospital, THEN Queen Elizabeth Army hospital .... before needing to go to Hungry in Budapest for treatment.

With the AMAZING support of his Sister Lesley Clifford and her Husband Ron, this was the foundation and support to the long road of help given to enable his recovery to the best possible way (Which was so essential - this alone had many challenges and difficulties) BUT , they DID IT

He was unable to walk or talk .... BUT after a LONG hard period (which is still ongoing) speech came back and he became active again (Be it that even to this day he is paralyzed down his full right side) He still manages to do more than most people , such an inspiration with a mental drive to have NEVER given up.

This is a VERY short summary to start and could easily be a 500 page book .... I shall be looking to do more for this charity this year and ongoing and will look to share more details on this life story.

*Short message from Stoke themselves - When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community. With more donations and support from you, we can rebuild even more lives.

Thanks all
