Story

Hola Amigos! :)

My situation currently :

Hey guys, If you don't already know me, up until now been working for the Ambulcance service, in order to raise some pennies to pay for my flights to Mexico. I will be spending around 3 months here, or maybe longer (depends when i can grow a beard) as an unpaid volunteer.

Intro:

Thankyou for visiting my page, I hope you have a good read and it would be great if you could throw a couple of quid in to help the local community I am currently living and working in.

I am currently in Albarradas, a small community of around 678 in the state of Oaxaca, South Mexico, volunteering with a none profit organisation- All Hands and Hearts. The area is disaster stricken following numerous earthquakes, including one that struck the Mexican state of Oaxaca in June 23, 2020, with a magnitude of 7.4 Mw. of which housands of houses and other buildings in Oaxaca were damaged along with fatalaties.

Many of the buildings in rural areas of Oaxaca are made from mud bricks and are not strong enough to withstand such natural disasters. Our aim is to build a school from rebar and concrete that will.

The Project:

I, along around 30 other volunteers are building a school for local 75 students ranging from 1st grade to 6th who without which have very limited access to any education.

The school will consist of; a classroom, a library, a store room along with two bathrooms. While in Albarradas we will also be repairing 5 classrooms, two bathrooms and an office.

Day to day life:

So like i mentioned above, theres around 30 of us in total, coming and going to the programme. People from all walks of life, different nationalities and different locations all here for the same reason- To Build A School!

A typical day consists normally starts at a 6am wakeup, breakfast (jam and peanut butter sandwich), then off to the construction site for 7am which is located a 5 minute walk from our shared accomadation. I will try and post pictures on here with updates of the build, day to day life living in rural mexico, and maybe some scenic shots if i've time! - there may be some posted on my instagram account too (J.splodge). Signal is very limited here with it being so rural and constant thunderstorms but i will try and keep you posted whenever I can!! :)

(A bit about all Hands and Hearts)..

All Hands and Hearts is Smart Response efficiently and effectively addresses the immediate and long-term needs of communities impacted by natural disasters. By listening to local people, and deploying our unique model of engaging volunteers to enable direct impact, we rebuild safe, resilient schools, homes and other community infrastructure.

The great thing about All hands and Hearts is that any money donated to this page, 96% of it goes directly to building materials and food for volunteers.

Thankyou....!!

Guys, seriously thank you so much for getting this far and reading my story. Also a massive thankyou to anyone that chooses to donate to this fantasic cause, like I say 96 cents to the dollar of monies donated goes directly on the ground and is greatly appreciated.

Lots of Love,
