Motor Neurone Disease (MND) affects about 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time and kills a third of people within a year. There is no cure for it yet.
I'm running the Rob Burrow marathon in Leeds on 14th May, raising money for the Leeds Hospitals charity. We're trying to create a centre dedicated to caring for those with MND, but we need to raise £6.8million to build it.
Thanks to some brilliant fundraising so far, and the unbelievable support of the people of Leeds, the whole of rugby league, and thousands of others, we're over halfway there.
As a Leeds Rhinos fan, and someone who watched Rob throughout his whole career at Leeds, it's a cause very close to my heart. Rob is a rugby league legend - the 2011 grand final is know as the Rob Burrow final - but since his MND diagnosis in 2019 he has become an inspirational figure to millions, as has his wife Lindsey and their three young children. Life expectancy for people with MND is about 2 years. We want to find a cure quickly, and give people with MND a lifeline.
This will be my first (and only!) marathon so any support you can give would be hugely appreciated by so many people.
