Ambitious about Autism is the National Charity for autistic children and young people championing their rights and creating opportunities. They stand with autistic children and young people by providing services, raising awareness, understanding and by campaigning for change.

Story

I have been involved with Ambitious about Autism since 2017 as a parent of 2 children who went to Ambitious College.   I have 4 boys with ASD.   Thomas and Benjamin  were diagnosed with autism just before their 3rd birthday and were non verbal.   They have required intensive support throughout their education.   At 18, they left school with one GCSE each and were fortunately accepted onto a three year programme at Ambitious College to embark on BTecs-  Through the dedication and support of some brilliant staff at Ambitious, they succeeded, smashing through glass ceilings. Thomas obtained a merit in BTec level 3 in animation and Benjamin obtained a distinction at level 3 in music production.   Both are now at University just about to enter their final year.   For more info visit  www.ambitiousaboutautism.org.uk.

I have been a Governor at Ambitious College since 2018 and Chair since 2021.   I have seen how Ambitious College and the other 4 educational settings  under the Ambitious umbrella provide amazing support to the children and young adults, helping them gain vital skills to help them achieve more independence and more fulfilling lives.

I took up running again shortly before the Covid lock down after a 30 year gap , because of a back injury which prevented me from running.   I finished a marathon in 1982, when I was 20...   To be able to have the opportunity to take part in the London Marathon is very much a dream come true...although I won't be able to achieve the same time.   Training is going OK .amd is enhjoyable and so far have avoided injury.   Thomas and Hector are also runners- Thomas. He is not a marathon runner but his current time for 5000m is 16.23 -...He missed out on a paralympic classification but hopes to get entry for the Vertus Games in the autism category so watch this space.

A big big thank you for all those who have generously sponsored me.   I have hit my £2000 target but please do keep giving because it is a great cause.
