We provide support and fund vital research to make myeloma history

Story

Myeloma is a relatively unknown Cancer of the Bone Marrow - it does not have a cure. However, survival rates are increasing with the help of charitable funding of research and clinical trials.

In February 2015, I was given the news that no Husband, Dad or their Family wants to hear.  Following an emergency operation and treatment to remove a tumour from my spine, without which I would not be walking today, i was diagnosed with Myeloma and just recently I have learnt that I have new tumours and will be starting further treatment leading to a stem cell transplant after this challenge.

Myeloma UK provides vital and much needed advice, information and support to patients and their families just like mine; they help them cope with everything a Myeloma diagnosis brings.  Furthermore, they fund research programmes to develop and discover new treatments and fund ground-breaking clinical trials giving patients access to the most promising new drugs.

So, what am I doing and how can you help raise money?

Three day - Walk round the Isle of Wight Challenge (4th - 6th June 2016)

People who know me well will know I like a challenge, something that even day to day living has become, living in constant pain and reliant on medication. That said, my desire and determination to continue to enjoy my life 'as was' has led me to something I have always wanted to do.  The Isle of Wight is a place that has provided many good times and fond memories throughout my life, so I could not think of a better challenge than to walk round the Island (74 miles) in three days.

I would be so grateful for any donation to my justgiving page in recognition of this challenge.  Alternatively you can donate by SMS - simply text:  MJON77 and either £5, £10 or £20 to 70070

Organise and walk 'March for Myeloma' (Group Walk) 15th May 2016

A huge heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for supporting this inaugural event on Sunday 15th May 2016 - whether you walked, donated or sent messages of encouragement and best wishes, I thank you all. A beautiful sunny morning within the Northamptonshire Countryside was the perfect setting for the 55 people, coming from all over the country, walking the 6.5 or 13.5 mile routes, while raising much needed awareness and funds f...or Myeloma UK.

It is such tremendous support from people like you, that gives hope to patients and families like mine and helps us turn our backs on fear and look to a more positive future.

Please remember to gift aid your donation and it will help us raise more money.
