Story
As many of you may know, my son Joshua received the diagnosis of Global Developmental Delay at a young age. Since then we have gone on be lucky enough for Joshua to have genetic testing and we were advised that his difficulties are due to a HNRNPU chromosomal deletion which gave us an answer to why he suffers with various difficulties. As a family, we have been through an emotional rollercoaster but at the heart of it was our amazing son who, as any parent would understand, we want the best for. Our journey began when he was just three months old when Joshua started receiving various therapies as he appeared to be missing all of his milestones, he has made exceptional progress in relation to his physical mobility and although he gets amazing support he still struggles with speech and is considered to be intellectually immature. The thought of Joshua starting school was a daunting one for us and we knew that he would need extra support but didn't have a clue as to what our rights were and how to access this. SNAP Cymru were recommended through one the support services and as soon as we spoke to them a weight was lifted. They were available throughout the process of applying for extra support to explain everything and to attend meetings for extra support. Joshua has just been approved for a full-time 1:1 worker at his new school and without the guidance of SNAP Cymru, I wouldn't have known how to fight for this. We can't tell you how important having this charity available to us is, to ensure that our child receives the support he needs to become the best person he can and we are forever grateful. I will be running various 10k events starting from March, finishing off with the Cardiff Half Marathon to help raise money and ensure that this worthy cause continues to support other families like ours.
