Centrica Brathay Trust 3 Lakes Challenge · 4 May 2013 ·

Inspiring over 7000 young people from across the UK to build their brighter futures.

Story

We are a group of twenty lads from the Maintenance Department at Centrica Energy Barrow-in-Furness, and in May of this year we are taking on the 3 Lakes Challenge.

The challenge is to row the three longest lakes in the Lake District (Ullswater, Coniston Water and Windermere) in less than 12 hours.

We are committed to raise money to send a group of pupils from George Hastwell School.  This is a special school for day pupils ranging from the age of 2 years to 19 years which provides a safe, happy and harmonious environment for the young people. George Hastwell School educates young people who have a statement of special educational needs for severe or profound and complex learning difficulties. Some pupils have additional sensory impairments, physical medical needs, challenging behaviours and/or autistic spectrum condition. Significant numbers are entitled to free school meals, reflecting varying levels of social need experienced by some of the young people. The school aims to enable and include all members of the school’s community in life and learning

The money raised will finance the children to experience a specially designed residential outward bound course at Brathay Manor at the head of Windermere.  An opportunity to come to Brathay for a residential programme would provide a group of young people from George Hastwell School with a challenge outside of their regular school life. It would enable them to plan, organise and participate in activities which would enhance and support their learning. Such a programme would introduce them to a new environment in which they would have the opportunity to develop their key communication skills, working together, face individual challenges and support each other to achieve their
