Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

For the majority of my younger years, I've been an avid basketball player, playing in a number of teams and competitions. When I turned 25, I set myself 25 goals to complete this year, one of them being to run a marathon. It's safe to say this will be one of the most challenging tasks I've ever completed and I would love you to be part of the journey!

The Cause:

Living in the heart of Stratford, I typically run in various parts of East London and come across a number of homeless people. I am fortunate to have the nutrition, peace of mind and time to prepare for such a task. However there are many homeless people in this local community who I see on my runs who do not. Nearly 1 in 4 will be affected by mental health at some point in their life and homelessness can exacerbate the magnitude and likelihood of this.

In light of this, I have decided to both complete one of my 25 goals and raise money for Mind in Tower Hamlets and Newham. They are a community mental health charity that helps make sure anyone with a mental health of emotional issue has somewhere to turn for advice and support.

The Reality:

Since it was announced that London would host the 2012 Olympics:

  1. The number of unintentionally homeless people in Newham has increased by more than 12 times
  2. One in every 25 Newham residents are believed to be homeless with an increased chance of being marginalised as a result of the fast rise in house and rental prices
  3. Nearly 100 people a night sleep rough in and outside of the Stratford Centre shopping mall opposite Westfield

Your kind contribution will be much appreciated and thank you in advance for any donation you can make.
