Hull Half Marathon 2022 · 12 June 2022 ·
On 23rd February 2016, when I was 18 I collected my positive genetic test results for Huntington's Disease. HD is a degenerative illness with currently no cure. Everyone who is a child of someone who has HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting the gene. I have taken part a lot in scientific research, both in Leeds and London teaching Hospitals. From diagnosis there is no saying when your onset of symptoms will show and when HD will kick in, but usually from when someone with HD starts showing symptoms, there life expectancy is roughly 10 years. I have not shown any symptoms yet so am making the most of every day I have.
I vowed when I was 18 I would do anything and everything I could to help raise money and much needed awareness for the Huntington's Disease Association. A charity that helps and supports families with HD. The HDA have helped me in so many ways and feel lucky to have been diagnosed in a time where such charities exist. I have taken part in lots of charity challenges, such as a trek across the Swiss Alps; the Grand Canyon and the Great North Run and am looking forward to my next challenge, Hull Half Marathon!
If anyone is able to please donate that would be ever so gratefully appreciated, even a share of the page would be amazing and mean so much to me!
