Story
As many of you may know, I have been lucky enough to combine my hobby with undertaking a “Challenge Adventure” cycle ride every year for the past 14 years, only missing one, raising money through sponsorship and personnel donation for many extremely worthwhile causes.
Unlike many cycle rides “Challenge Adventure” directs all monies raised to the individual charity of choice, with each participant paying for all their costs. This year I am raising money for “Smile4Wessex” Neurological Centre Trust. Based at Southampton General Hospital the Neurological Centre is already one of the most highly regarded neurological centres in the UK, the Wessex Neurological Centre provides acute/specialist neurological care to patients from across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, West Sussex, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands - an area with a population of around 3 million people.
This year's challenge is to ride from Geneva to Menton, near Nice, over the French Alps covering in excess of 450 miles over 7 days, starting on 9 June. I am part of a group of 40 cyclists undertaking this challenge, which due to the 17 mountain passes we need to climb in weather which will inevitably range from potential 30 degrees C to possible freezing conditions will put the challenge in “Challenge Adventure”. Having ridden a number of these mountains previously I know firsthand the “pain” that awaits us all.
I hope you can give me your support again this year, even just a little adds up very quickly and all monies raised is going to an extremely important charity that means a lot to me.
