Story
I have been volunteering as a carer for the last few years with the Newman Holiday Trust, a volunteer driven charity that organises week long summer camps for kids with special needs - providing one to one care for the kids and well deserved rest for their families which normally need to care for the kids with very little support.
Finally, after two years of cancelled holidays, this year is set to be the one for them to return. I am sure the kids will have a blast on the holidays and their families will appreciate the freedom for the week!
However, although the plan was for me to volunteer what would have been my 6th year in the Holidays that is not going to be possible. We are expecting our first born for the exact same dates as the Holiday and I will be caring of Sue and the new arrival instead. I am really looking forward introducing my daughter to the Holidays and hopefully she will take the token from me in the future
So instead, in order to support the charity and raise the funds required to keep the Holidays running, I am embarking in another 50 mile race. This time in the South Downs, weather forecast looked grim a week ago but it is getting better as the date closes. It will still be some tough miles in the hills!
As I have done successfully before, I will try to recall the previous Newman Trust Holidays - one of my happy places - to keep the spirits high when things get tough on the trail.
Thanks in advance for your generosity, every penny goes to the kids!
