In an era of unexpected happenings (BREXIT/ TRUMP/ NO CLEAR MAJORITY PARLIAMENT/ Judy & Matt's RUBY WEDDING ANNIVERSARY) I have decided to swim 2,525 metres to raise money to help bright but impoverished Commonwealth Girls have the unexpected happen to them - the gift of a secondary education for a whole year.
There are millions of girls in low and medium economy Commonwealth Countries who receive no secondary education. CGEF provide funds to enable capable girls to get the unexpected education they need and deserve. Many of them go on to become lawyers/ doctors/ nurses/ teachers/ engineers and all of them better informed wives and mothers in their own communities where they in turn educate their own next generation of girls and boys. It is sad in this day and age that we still have to raise money to educate girls but it is a fact of life that where boys are educated, girls are STILL often not afforded the same opportunity.
In addition to raising funds to educate girls, the CGEF, which celebrates its own GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY this year, monitors each girl's academic progress and personal development through secondary school. Often their girls are leaders among their peer groups and go on to be leaders and campaigners for girls rights in health and education in their countries.
