I am running London Marathon on 23rd April 2023 in memory of Guy Poland who died in 2021, aged 39, from metastatic melanoma.
Guy and I met as fresh-faced freshers in 2001 (see photo above!) as the two vet students at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. When we qualified in 2007, Guy and soon-to-be wife Remy invited me to share their house, enabling us to share the trials and tribulations of the first year as newly qualified vets. Although we then moved 160 miles apart, whenever we met up it felt like it had only been a matter of days. Our sons are a similar age and get on brilliantly.
Guy was so caring and kind hearted but also full of energy and fun. Anyone who ever met Guy remembered him. He was loved by everyone.
Melanoma can be so cruel and is the second most common cancer in males aged between 15 and 44 years of age in England. I am raising money for UK charity Melanoma Focus. They provide information and support for patients and healthcare professionals, as well as commissioning and funding research. I hope to raise £100 per mile for this worthy cause. I'm very grateful to VetPartners who will match donations making your donation even more meaningful.
Thank you for supporting Melanoma Focus and in doing so providing me with much needed encouragement to keep going when the going gets tough in London. 26.22 miles is a long way! I know this will also mean a lot to Guy's parents, wife and son.
