Story
Winchester hospice plans to convert Burrell House at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, once home to nurses and a medical training facility during the Second World War, into a 10-bedded hospice supporting patients with life limiting illnesses and their families. It's only fitting that we can use a significant 75th D-Day anniversary to help raise funds for this valuable service. In the community a ‘hospice at home’ service will be provided and a homecare team will be in place to ensure that patients can be cared for and remain in their preferred place to die. Outstanding end of life care is already provided by staff at the Countess of Brecknock Hospice in Andover and some of the riders sadly, very recently, recognise that Andover is a long way for patients and their families to travel from Winchester and the surrounding area. By creating a new hospice in Winchester and continuing with the plans to expand the Countess of Brecknock Hospice, we can ensure that even more people are able to access these valuable services.
