Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm taking part in the Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday 26
February and the London Marathon on Sunday 23 April 2023 for a children's education charity in India - the Venkat Trust.

At last year’s half marathon, our group of runners was successful in raising money to help build new classrooms for the school which the Trust supports, as the high school had won the accolade to add an Upper Sixth. There had been an influx of 600 more students who all wanted to come to the high school because it's the best! Clearly much funding was needed to make this happen.

Giving these poverty-stricken children the best education means that the Trust is firmly forward thinking and will continue to help to eradicate poverty in Kovalam & the surrounding villages in Tamil Nadu.

Through the trust, I sponsor a 12-year-old boy, to support him
through his education. In January I was lucky enough to visit Kovalam as the Trust reached its coming of age, 18 years old.

A group of us visited the primary and high schools and joined the Sunday gathering of the sponsored children, as well as visiting my sponsored child and his family in their home. I struggle to put into words what an experience this was, one I shall never forget. The children and families were the most welcoming, sharing, friendly folk I’ve ever met. And the children and teachers are so passionate and positive about their education! Without doubt I’ll return to keep in touch and see their progress. It’s an ongoing challenge to help eradicate poverty but through supporting the Venkat Trust and therefore the education of the children of Kovalam, the lives of them and their families is changing forever.

Please take a look at the video “Goodbye Poverty” which helps
gives you a real flavour of the great work being done. Any support you can give goes a long way.
