We help deaf children to learn to listen and talk.

Story

Pete and I have been doing charity challenges for The Elizabeth Foundation for a number of years and we continue to try to think outside the box to come up with different ways to stretch ourselves to keep fit and young.  This is much easier for Pete, as he is younger than me!!

This year we have decided to take on the Snowdon Triple Challenge, considered the ultimate challenge to conquer some of the UK’s most rugged landscape.  We will tackle all terrains as we cycle, trek and kayak in just one day, including summiting the highest peak in Wales – Mount Snowdon at 1,085m.  Weather permitting, this provides some of the most extensive views in the British Isles. On a clear day you can see four kingdoms, 24 counties, 29 lakes and 17 islands!

The Elizabeth Foundation has always been close to our hearts. The charity supports deaf children to learn to listen and talk and supports the entire family right from the time of diagnosis at approximately 5 weeks old, to school entry at 5 years old.  Over the years, we have been privileged to be able to share in many special ‘magical’ moments with children and family as we see babies respond to sound for the first time, toddlers saying their first words, and preschoolers becoming confident and independent communicators.

Please help us to continue to be able to support the children and families who attend our family centre.  This is certainly a big challenge for two tired, ageing, nearly 50-year-olds, with dodgy knees and falling fitness levels.  We need your help to keep us going!!!  Many, many thanks for all your support!

“We thought that he would never be able to speak to us... Nor, more importantly, would he ever be able to hear us tell him we love him.” Parent of profoundly deaf little boy.The Elizabeth Foundation (TEF) helps deaf babies and preschool children learn to listen and speak. We are there to support and inform families from the moment their child is diagnosed with any degree of hearing loss. This year over 80 babies, toddlers and preschool children will attend specialist education programmes and get individual speech and language therapy"

About the charity

The Elizabeth Foundation is a Family Centre with baby, toddler and pre-school sessions for deaf children and their families. We follow the 'Multi Sensory Oral Approach', to develop speech, language and listening skills by using all of the child's senses in a natural, fun, child-centred environment.
