I have set myself this challenge after having watched our eldest daughter and thousands of others run the the London Marathon 2013!! I found the whole event very emotional and was truely inspired and determined to take part myself.
I have enjoyed the benefits of running for several years but would never have thought it would lead to committing myself to such a demanding challenge. But with the amazing support of friends and family my marathon training and fund raising campaign is coming along great.
Having ran and raised money for several charities that mainly support adults I decided to run for a childrens charity and after reading about the wonderful work being done by Whizz-Kidz nationally and in particular my home city Hull, here goes - my very own official fund raising page which I am very proud to share with everyone!!
What will your sponsorship go towards???
Over the past 10 years in Hull Whizz-Kidz have provided over 100 children with wheelchairs to meet all the individual needs of each child and continue to work closely with the Wheelchair Service to ensure the children of Hull recieve the best equipment available.
Whizz-Kidz have a 5 year patnership with Hull College in which they are striving to increase the number of disabled children who choose to continue with further education by going on to study at the college.
Hull has a Whizz-Kidz Ambassador Club where disabled children come together and take part in disabled sports, engage in social activities and campaign to improve the lives of local disabled children. The funding for this club is up for review in May so there is a good chance that monies raised will keep the club running well into 2015.
£5,900 will provide a child with the right wheelchair (including a therapist assessment).
£2,500 will provide a wheelchair training programme for 10 children,
Up to £17,000 for a complex powered wheelchair.
How will I raise the money???
On the run up to christmas I hope to kick start my fund raising with funds raised from selling crafts and cakes. I have some very 'crafty' friends and family who have worked hard making some beautiful items with a christmas theme - tea cosies, traditional christmas bunting, earrings, tiny knitted christmas pudding decorations and pouches of 'magic' reindeer food. We have also been very busy baking cup cakes, biscuits, pastries and buns which have all tasted yummy and looked divine (I am pulling my weight may I add!!!)
I have lots of other things in mind and will keep you posted as we get them organised!!
Well, I am just over one third of the way through 'runners world 16 week basic marathon scedule (intermediate)' and so far I have ejoyed lots of good runs, hill training and interval training with the constant support of Dave Cracknell, occasionally Carmel (my eldest daughter) and Mike Murray. The odd run has been a hard slog but hey ho!!!
Running 5 times a week certainly requires lots of dertermination and dedication and is certainly more demanding than I ever imagined!
Housework-what's that??? You should see the dust!!!
Beauty regieme-whats that??? You should see my eyebrows!!!
Spare time-what's that??? A distant memory!!!
BUT everything is going along just fine thanks to the support of my wonderful family and friends who are always there offerring help and support-I owe you all big time!!!
