Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Welcome to our West Highland Way challenge! (1st-4th July 2022).

A team of Managers from size? have decided to take on a fundraising challenge this summer by walking the West Highland Way, in support of St Giles Hospice and in honour of Juliet Bain who sadly lost her brave battle against metastatic breast cancer on May 21st.

Juliet was the sister of Alan Bain, who is a huge part of the size? family so our goal is to raise £10,000 for St Giles Hospice to aide the incredible work they do on a day to day basis. Without this charity, Juliet would not have received the care she did in her final months.

2 years ago Juliet was given the devastating news that she had metastatic breast cancer which had already spread to her lungs by the time of diagnosis meaning there was no cure. Despite her condition Juliet made it her goal to raise awareness about her rare form of cancer through numerous personal blogs and social media content.

The Scottish Highlands was special to Juliet due to her family heritage which is why we feel it is the perfect setting for our challenge.

The trek through the iconic Highlands is made up of 96 miles, usually completed over 7-10 days. The route links Milngavie to Fort William, finishing at the foot of Scotland’s highest mountain. The route will involve 10+ hours of walking each day and an ascent of over 10,000ft. The challenge for us however, is to complete this in just 4 days…

Day 1: Milngavie - Rowardennan (23 miles)

Day 2: Rowardennan - Tyndrum (26 miles)

Day 3: Tyndrum - Kingshouse (20 miles)

Day 4: Kingshouse - Fort William (28 miles)

There will be a team of 6 of us, all with different levels of athletic abilities - this will be far from easy for any of us but we WILL complete this.

Team members:

  • Alan Bain
  • Matt Fox
  • Jo Webster
  • Gary Bentham
  • Chris Cairns
  • Rob Brown
