Story
When I went to Uni, I immediately became best friends with 3 other amazing women. Little did we know at the time, by becoming friends it meant the stats were against us:
1 in 4 women have been raped or sexually assaulted as an adult.
Unfortunately, we were only 3 years into being 'adults' when it happened to me. It didn’t happen in a dark ally, or by a stranger. It didn’t happen because I was wearing the ‘wrong clothes’ or by giving ‘mixed signals’. But the truth is that it did happen and it has happened to 6.5 million other women and yet no one believes us, they blame us and tell us we should have done more to stop it.
It’s because of all this that I knew when I ran my first marathon it would have to be for this charity as they do incredible work to help women feel like the world is that little be safer and they always strive to make it so. Rape Crisis England & Wales raises awareness of the prevalence and impact of sexual violence and abuse in all its forms. Advocates for systems change to create better responses in justice, health, education and across society and importantly, ensure that specialist support is available.
