Story
The PRIDE team at AlphaSights is raising funds during Pride Month for the charity Just Like Us.
This charity works with schools across the UK to improve the lives of LGBT+ young people.
Growing up LGBT+ is still unacceptably tough. According to a study conducted by Just Like Us in 2021, LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) young people are twice as likely to experience depression, panic attacks and anxiety disorders than young people who are not LGBT+.
Schools can play a hugely positive role in this by making their environments safe and welcoming for vulnerable LGBT+ young people. Just Like Us makes an impact through 3 main lines of action:
- School Diversity Week: a UK-wide celebration of LGBT+ equality in primary schools, secondary schools and colleges
- Free LGBT+ inclusive educational resources: they help make schools safer, happier and more welcoming places for all young people
- School talks: student-led Pride Groups programme, with an Ambassador Programme training LGBT+ 18 to 25 year olds to speak in schools about allyship
