Story
I appreciate you taking the time to visit my page and show your support for a charity that I truly believe in and carry close to my heart.
I think many of us, including myself, take our eyesight for granted. When we notice a change in our vision, we pop to our local opticians and hey presto, walk away with new glasses! 670 million people worldwide do not have this luxury and are classified as visually impaired simply because they cannot get the glasses they need. A simple pair of glasses could help a child get an education, a mother look after her children and a father continue working to provide for his family.
In January 2014 I will be taking part in a Vision Aid Overseas project where I will be travelling to Zambia with a team of fellow volunteers. We will be involved in training local nurses, optometrists, and medical students in carrying out eye tests and providing spectacles. The key is sustainability and on leaving Zambia, we aim to leave the newly trained locals with the independence to run their own eye care services.
A donation can give a child the sight they need to go to school. This child in turn can gain an education and get work breaking the poverty cycle. Your donation will go towards equipment, spectacles, and the training of the local optometrists at Chainama College of Health Sciences. In September 2013, nine optometrists became the first graduates of the college since it was founded in 2010 which was an amazing achievement as up until now only a handful of optometrists served Zambia's 12 million population. Our team will be involved in training the new students and providing Zambia with even more optometrists.
Please donate whatever you can, share my page to raise awareness of my upcoming project and know that you helped to change someone's life!
Thank you all so much and I promise all your donations will go far in making a huge difference.
