Story

I, along with many other supporters will be running to Brighton 10K to raise funds for the great awareness UKPHA have created of the sacrifice of Sikh and Indian soldiers in the Great War via the Empire Faith and War project. www.empirefaithwar.com

Having seen the exhibition at SOAS and interacting with the team, I was inspired to contribute to the cause in any way possible to raise further awareness of the forgotten soldiers, their sacrifice and account of the war.

The Empire Faith and War team require further funding in order to collect and share stories and accounts from Sikh families of their ancestors that fought in the war for Britain. The project aims to create educational packs, free publications and hopefully a documentary about the incredible and relatively unknown part of British and Sikh history.

Why Brighton? Well, Brighton Pavilion was where injured Indian soldiers were nursed – soldiers such as Manta Singh who died of his wounds after having saved the life of his British officer. He was cremated on a hill above the city. His service and that of the other 1.5 million Indian troops need to be acknowledged and UKPHA are doing all they can to tell the Sikh story. This is why I am taking part in the 10k: in memory of men such as Manta Singh.

I hope you will support me: With your help they will be remembered. Thank you.
