The Enormous Elephant Run: Freestyle · 16 June 2018 ·

Our Teams work to protect Kenya's wildlife and habitats through Anti-Poaching operations, Community Outreach, Mobile Veterinary support and the rescue and rehabilitation of elephant and rhino orphans so that they can return to the wild when grown. With your help, we can save more wild lives.

Story

Can you imagine carrying a baby for, not 9 but, 22 months in your womb and watch it being ripped from you or not even being alive to take care of it? Because this is exactly what elephants experience.

Skin trade, trophy hunting and ivory trade are just a few of the threats facing elephants today. Elephant calves are kidnapped from Zimbabwe at such a young age to train for circus acts; Older bulls are killed for their ivory which is viewed as a symbol of status and investment in China and with its growing population, the threat is ever so appalling. Elephant polo in Thailand is just another example of exploitation seen as form of entertainment by the high society there. As if this wasn’t enough, the US recently lifted the ban on elephant trophy hunting last November.

And then there are organisations like the DSWT which works on Kenya's front line to protect threatened wildlife and habitats. Hand raising orphan baby elephants who have lost their mothers, with years of care, these babies are gradually reintegrated back into the wild, with many going on to have babies of their own. The DSWT also operates Anti-Poaching, Mobile Veterinary Units and Aerial Surveillance Teams to keep wild animals of all kinds safe.

So I will be running the 5k Enormous Elephant Run in June to fundraise for this organisation. Please sponsor me if you can and make a difference. Every little counts.
